About our strings
Straight Up Strings represents a paradigm shift in musical string technology in which the core-to-wrap gauges and resultant tensions in each set of strings are compensated based on 1) where the strings sit on the bridge, 2) how the strings' energy drives the bridge, 3) how the bridge drives the soundboard, and 4) how the strings' tensions are compensated for the tensions of neighboring strings.
Consider the guitar's fixed bridge in which the strings' longitudinal tension drives the soundboard by twisting it, the mandolin and mandola bridge in which the down pressure from two courses of strings sit near the posts and two courses are in the middle of the saddle, the traditional three-foot banjo with three strings sitting over feet and two strings sitting over arches, and the resophonic guitar with a fixed saddle insert fitted into an aluminum spider. Each of these acoustical systems presents a unique transfer of the strings' energy to the soundboard, head, or cone, and each presents a unique challenge to achieve the optimum balanced tone, feel, and sustain; a perplex carefully analyzed, tested, and solved by Straight Up Strings.
In each section below we are happy to provide technical resources about what makes Straight Up Strings great for their respective instruments.
Enjoy!
